A while ago we asked for people who were interested in beta testing a new integration between FreeAgent and a CRM product called Javelin. After a short beta test, the integration has now gone live, and we're quite excited about the possibilities.

We use Javelin as our own in-house CRM, and we're big fans, so we were happy to hear about the integration, as we can now sync our contacts and invoices between the two applications.

If you're looking for a slick, easy-to-use CRM product then definitely take a look at Javelin.

Over to you...

Sounds good, though can you tell us how they two services actually integrate together.

I'm guessing tasks in Javelin can be brought over to FreeAgent so that they can be charged for?

It would be good to have a full breakdown of what's possible.

I've personally been thinking for a while it would be great if FreeAgent could extend into a general project management app. I'm a freelancer and being able to create tasks, complete them and charge for them all in the same application would be awesome, but at the moment I have to use other software to plan my work and then separately log time spent working in FreeAgent. However, I can see that you may not want to take FreeAgent in that direction (i.e. keep it just as accounting software, to not make it too complicated), but personally I'd be willing to increase my monthly subscription fee if you also covered project management.

@David: At the minute Contacts and Invoices are synced between the 2 systems but not Tasks.

In Javelin tasks are linked with Contacts, whereas in FreeAgent, as you'll know, they're linked to Projects so they're a different beast.

I'll write something up on the exact details of the integration, and I'm sure Javelin will too.

Ah, OK, shame.

Does FreeAgent have any plans to address the project/task management issue? Or has it perhaps been decided against? If the latter, it would be good to know as I can look at building an app to use the API (and who knows, could sell it as as FreeAgent add-on service).

We're very keen to address project and task management in FreeAgent as (and I'll be completely honest with you here) it's not that great at the minute, as you'll no doubt know.

I don't think we'll ever become a full-blown PM app, but we would like to introduce better management of tasks and profit/budget reporting.

No word on when this will be though I'm afraid. We've got a few other things on the list before it.
